Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedures performed today.   Small alterations on the underling foundation of the nose can lead to great results in the overall form and function of the nose.  Cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty is a safe, outpatient procedure performed by Dr. Bastidas.  During the consultation together we will discuss what your goals are and we will work to achieve your utmost perfect outcome.

Our goal is to create a naturally appearing nose while refining your existing anatomic structures.  A thorough physical exam is performed to determine the straightness of the nose, the symmetry, support of the tip and alar cartilages and shape of the nose.  An intra-nasal speculum exam will determine if the septum is deviated and if the turbinates are enlarged.

Most rhinoplasty procedures take approximately 3-4 hours and are conducted as an outpatient procedure under anesthesia.  Rhinoplasty is often combined with septoplasty to help address breathing concerns at the time of surgery.  Recovery is approximately 1-2 weeks.  Most patients return to work in a week.   A nasal splint is worn for 5-7 days.  Swelling may take several weeks to resolve with the final result not appreciated for 3-4 months.

Secondary or Revision Rhinoplasty

A revision rhinoplasty, is more difficult, due to the violation of the normal anatomic structures and ligaments and previous alterations from the initial surgery.  Cartilage grafting is often needed to reconstruct the aberrant anatomy and provide support for the revised rhinoplasty.  This cartilage can be harvested from either behind your ear or from rib cartilage (yours or cadaveric).
