Ear Molding

Ear molding takes advantage of an infant’s soft and pliable cartilage and allows us to place silicone devices to non-surgically correct (mold) the ear into the desired shape. Ideally, ear molding begins at 2 weeks of life but can still show results if initiated later in life. The devices are placed in the office without any pain or need for anesthesia.
The molding device must be worn constantly for a period of 2-6 weeks for optimal results (older infants require longer molding times). We offer children a non-surgical, scar-less alternative for correcting abnormally shaped ears. The following are common types of ear deformities that we treat:

  • Lop Ear (folded ear)
  • Prominent Ears (Dumbo ears)
  • Stahl Ear (Spock ear)
  • Hidden Ear (cryptotia)

The devices are placed on your child’s ear using an adhesive tape and often require reapplication within 2 weeks. Dr. Bastidas is a regional expert at ear molding for New York and New Jersey and has helped hundreds of ears attain normalcy. This procedure is more often covered by commercial insurances and pre-authorization can be obtained before your initial consult visit.
